LiveJournal friends, anyway. Wow. I don't think I ever had that many friends in real life.

Toy of the week: Discovery Toys' Marbleworks. Ordered it a few weeks ago (I think I wrote about that) and picked it up on Friday. Kids are absolutely entranced. And it's fun for me, too, building a layout. We had the same thing as kids (sibs and I) and that version is still residing at Dad's place, so next time we're there, it's coming home with us. That'll make a niiiiice big set. The set we got is cool -- I linked to it above -- but it came with only one of each of the regular track pieces. Makes for a decent layout, but I could do better :) Endless fun for S and S even with the set as-is.

Busy weekend. Friday, we drove over to Concord to see Mom and Bob, and also collect the last of their tomatoes for yet more sauce. I don't know if I wrote about last week -- probably not, as I am a bad updater. (Last weekend, long story short, we picked 2 bushels of tomatoes, washed them, cut them in half, fed them through the tomato machine, put them in jars, and boiled them, with lots of help and guidance from David's grandparents, who have been doing this for years and years, and his parents, who haven't but helped a lot anyway. We ended up with 51 pints and 27 quarts, which should last us the better part of a year, or maybe 9 months, depending on how often we eat pasta w/sauce. Store bought sauce cannot beging to compare, honestly. This stuff is heaven in a jar.) Anyway, M&B brought us about half a bushel, which made another 17 pint jars yesterday. Kids of course had a great time visiting with M&B (Gamma and Bob, to them), and so did I :) Then we went to Target, where as usual I was evil and bought stuff from their $1 section even though I know it must be made by slave labor in China. Sigh.

Saturday, we canned -- took a couple hours, not too bad. Certainly easier than doing the lot by hand like we did last year -- about 1/2 bushel of tomatoes made us about 6 quart jars, but took at least 4 hours and that was all hard work. Then we bummed around the house, as David was feeling fluish.

Today, some laundry. Picked a winner for my sling raffle, much to their delight :) That was fun. Hard to pick just one winner, though, so at the last minute, I decided I'd have a second and third prize, too ($30 or under sling and $10 off). We raised nearly $300 ($295, and I'm chucking in the extra $5) which will go to the Red Cross or Unicef, haven't decided. Plus I decided that I will be donating 10% of monthly sling sales to a sort of charity of the month. I like having the money that sling sales bring in, but there are other people who need it a lot more than I do, and I've always wanted to be able to give more.

Not much else to write about. Sorry I'm not a good commentor -- I enjoy reading everyone's entries, even if I'm quiet about it :)

I love those marble run toys. Arthur enjoyed playing with one at the Science Museum recently, and I've gotten him this for either his birthday or Christmas.

I'm envious of your canning. Well, not the canning so much as the results!

OMG, that is so cool! I want one! Not for them, though -- for me.

We had tomato sauce for dinner tonight. Yuuuummmmmmm.

Oh my god, Marbleworks. Um, Roby and I need to get over there asap, even if she doesn't know it yet, because, dude, Marbleworks! And we'll do it while Stephen's at school, because I'm Not Sharing. Nyah.

I can't wait till YoungBloke is old enough for a marble run. Neither can OldBloke!

How well has Sophie been able to play with the marbleworks? My guy is 2 1/2 and that looks like something right up his alley.

I'll trade all of the Chocolate Midnight Cupcakes I can make for some of your sauce. Serious canning envy. :)

Sophia enjoys stealing Stephen's marbles and plunking them down the course. I build the course, they play :) I think Stephen will be building shortly, though.

Mmmm, chocolate cupcakes. Yes, please!

Wow, Jan, that is so generous of you to donate all of that money to Katrina relief, plus do a sling raffle. I'm glad that that was so successful.
We enjoyed seeing you and the kids the other night too. Unfortunately, those were NOT the last of my tomatoes - there are still scads of green ones on the vine. But I will take those to work and give them away, unless you really want them. And I'm glad that Dad had the other Marbleworks too! Way cool.
ciao,
yo mama

Hey, if we can get together again, I'd be happy for more tomatoes :)

A friend of mine sent your web link to me as we were talking one day about slings. She and I both loved the concept of the "Moby Wrap" sling but didn't like the price tag on them! She sent your link to me and since I sew..............it all worked out. :-)
I have 3 children, a 12 year old, 8 year old and a 2 month old. I feel like I am starting all over again and there is so much neat stuff available with this baby that wasn't available when my girls were born.
Not to mention that I am doing this baby in a whole different way than I did my girls. (i.e. breastfeeding versus bottle, staying at home versus working, etc...)
Just wanted you to know that you have another supporter, your site is awesome.
