Busy, busy weekend.

Yesterday we drove to Reading, MA, to the new Imax theater, to see "The Polar Express" in 3D!  Frank (David's dad) had bought the tickets online... or so he thought.  We had about 30 minutes of panic, because the ticket people claimed to have no record of the purchase.  Turned out that he'd bought them for the theater in Natick, but they were good sports and let us in anyway, and we got great seats in the middle of the theater. It was *amazing*.  The 3D was incredible, and really made the movie special.  I've read a lot of bad reviews of Polar Express, but I thought it was cool.

The theater itself was something else, too.  The building is, of course, huge.  When you enter the Imax part, you come into huge foyer.  Immediately before you is "Beantown" -- technicolored, brightly-lit, and everything is made of Jelly Belly jellybeans.  Mmmm.  There's a big kiosk for purchase of said beans, a little "park" of flowers made of beans, and over the ice cream parlor across the way, a giant banana split made of beans.  Behind the bean kiosk and above the escalator up is "The Green Monster", a giant animatronic monster head with moving eyes and mouth, whose hand clasps a hapless NY Yankees player.  Beyond the ice cream parlor is "Liquid Fireworks" which is extremely tacky, yet very pretty -- the 5-year-old in me really enjoyed it even as the 30-year-old said, "Oh my god, that is so heinous."  They also have a setup where you can learn to swing on a trapeeze.  Oy.  The strollers they had available were yellow taxis (single) and red firetrucks (double), free, and the kids enjoyed using a firetruck to ride around while we figured out what was up with the tickets.

After the movie, we drove the rest of the way into the city for Chinese and Trader Joe's.  Yummy as usual.  Got some good cheeses and stuff for Thanksgiving.  Oh, and we have 4 new chairs.  They are amazingly ugly, but sturdy and comfortable, and at $40 each, we figure we can ride them hard for a few years and then upgrade without feeling dumb.  So there will be plenty of seating for Turkey Day participants, at the table, even.

What else.  Oh, cleaned out the kitchen and part of the basement today -- put together 4 trash bags' worth of stuff for Goodwill.  Amazing.  Am gradually overcoming my pack-rat tendancies; now I can look at random stuff and say, "No, I won't use that, and won't miss it." instead of "Oh, I might use it some day..."  It's taken a long time, but moving did a lot for me; I just don't want to move all that crap again, and am happy to pare down now rather than waiting until the next time we move.  We still have too much stuff, though.  Need to purge the clothes that I won't wear again, toys the kids have outgrown, etc.  Wish we could have a yardsale!  I've thought about eBay, but ned to really psyche myself up for that... so much work.
