Yesterday I took Stephen to his first opera! It was a small performance of "The Devil and Daniel Webster" at the church in Portsmouth, NH, where Webster actually attended services. Kind of neat. The church was exceedingly quaint. Instead of having actual molding and such on the ceiling, all the details were painted, which was cool. I wish I'd brought the camera. Stephen seemed to really enjoy it -- there were a couple of times that he started to sway to the music, and it kept his interest the whole time. He liked seeing his uncle Eryk in a couple of roles, too, and Eryk's music friends came up afterwards and complimented how cute and well-behaved Stephen was. David watched Sophie while we went, so it was just me and Stephen. Should do that more often -- I don't get to spend a lot of time with just me and Stephen anymore.

Took Stephen to his storytime at the library today, and while he was there, did some windowshopping downtown. The little store that had consignment arty stuff is gone :( but there's an upscale wood place there now. Sophie and I had fun looking at stuff and walking around. I'd hoped to get some ideas for holiday gifts, but most things were too silly, too country, or too time-consuming. Ack. Then we picked up Stephen, looked at the booksale leftovers, visited JoAnn the librarian (who loves the kids and is always happy to see them), and started for home. Sophie really wanted to walk, so I let her... unfortunately, she stumbled on uneven pavement and took a header onto the blacktop. Her little nose is scratched, and her cheek is a bit red. However, she cried for only 30 seconds or so, and then was happy again. Brave Peach. I'm putting breastmilk on it in hopes that will help. Yet another reason I'm happy she's still nursing!

I put my font collection all in one folder. There are, get this, 6,331 of them. Bonkers. They're not all installed, of course, and the folder is bloody unwieldy. I will slowly go through them and categorize them. It annoys me when I go to a site and they're arranged alphabetically; if I want a handwriting font, that means I have to look through 26 letters' worth of pages. Dumb. So I will be arranging them by type. Time-consuming, but much easier to work with.
