Boston yesterday
Jan. 17th, 2006 04:26 pmWas fun :) Usual drive, though I knitted while David drove -- it was nice to be the passenger for once! We parked at the Museum of Science (instead of Lechmere) because it was so cold and windy, and we didn't want to put the kids through the 1/2 mile walk in such cold weather. Spent about 2.5 hours there; I took a few pics, but not as many as in the past. Kids had a good time, though Stephen freaked out during the electricity show (he's been very fearful lately, not sure what's up with that...) and it took a little while for him to calm down. That's okay, though; we've seen the electricity show a dozen times already. Sophie nursed through it -- she's not afraid of anything :)
After MoS, we drove to Chinatown and were lucky enough to find a parking spot (legal, too!). Had our usual late lunch of spicy dry fried salty squid (mmmm) and fried bean curd w/mixed veggies, and plain rice -- the kids both love squid and rice, and Sophie eats tofu, too. Walked over to my favorite fabric store, where I bought 15 more yards of the chambray I'd bought last time, because I thought to ask about the fiber contents this time and learned that it's a linen/rayon blend! For $2/yard! Score!! Plus some purple rayon, because I'm always getting asked about purple but I never have it. I don't know where I'm going to put it... I really need to clear out my stash. I have a ton of little pieces of stuff that I can't get rid of because they're pretty and I might use them some day (oy) but they are just taking up space. What I really need is a walk-in fabric closet... I have more tencel coming, too, including black. I made myself a sling out of the same stuff in silvery grey, and it's so comfortable and soft! I wish I could just sell tencel. It really is a marvelous fabric, and eco-friendly, too. But expensive, for the most part. I buy it when it's below $6/yard. I wonder if I could get it cheaper wholesale? But where would I store wholesale amounts?! Gah. We need a house. (Not in this market, no way no how!)
Anyway. After the fabric store, Trader Joe's, of course. I had Sophie zipped up under my coat -- should have taken a picture of that. We looked pretty silly, but were both nice and warm. Drive home was uneventful. Kids had a nice shower and went to bed without complaints, hurray! All in all, a great day. When it gets warmer, I want to do more walking around places we haven't visited before -- some of the historical stuff and whatnot. David's seen it before (he had many a school field trip, having lived in the area), but not me!
Today I bought Sophia some Hello Kitty underpants so we can start thinking about potty training. She can say "pee" and "pooh", which hopefully will be enough on the language front, but I'm not sure she understands the concept of having to pee and having to poop. She can hold it for a long time, though, and she adores the Kitty underpants. I had to get a size 4, which was all they have locally, but they seem to fit anyway. I never thought of her as being a big kid, but maybe she is? Or maybe a size 4 is just really stretchy for 4-year-olds. She's wearing a pair over her pants right now. Looks wicked silly, but it makes her happy. I'm thinking maybe a week of really working on it would be good; I didn't push it with Stephen, but she's so opposite him in virtually every way that I think she can handle it at this age. I just don't want to be changing a 4-year-old's diapers ever again :P
