Kids update

Probably about time for some words about the wee ones, eh?

Sophia has a slew of new skills.  I put an ABC border around the bedroom to help Stephen retain his letters, so when we sing the ABC song, we point to the letters.  And so does Sophie!  In fact, even in another room, she points and waves towards the ceiling (where the border is in the bedroom). She will "dance" on command, and her latest trick that only Daddy can get her to do is "Go to sleep!' He says that, and she'll curl up and snort, like she's snoring.  She is called "Sophie B." most of the time; I had been thinking of B for Bean, but Bear would be more appropriate, as she tends to growl for "yes" instead of nodding or saying yes.  Very peculiar :)  David brought her to the Requiem rehearsal on Friday, and she conducted while the music was playing.  He also discovered that if she were bounced in time with the music, she was happy, but if he bounced with a random rhythm, she got distressed.  My little musician!

Stephen continues to be a great big brother and son.  He's so sweet with Sophie, and is a gentle and considerate playmate with her and the kids at the library, more than other 4.5 year olds I've seen.  Of course he still has his moments, but he's really been such a treat.  We didn't plan to do Santa with our kids, but... it kind of just happens in this society.  After we went to see "The Polar Express," the idea was firmly planted in his head.  And other adults always ask him what Santa will bring him for Christmas... sigh.  So he's asking Santa for a red toy car (which we have bought, never fear) and will receive that, and a couple of other things from us.  (We'd rather keep the gifts to a comfortable minimum; the kids already have a ton of toys, and too many presents just makes each one less special, IMO.)

Will probably buy a tree next week.  Not sure if we'll get a big one that will rest on the floor, or a smaller, tabletop one that Sophie can't reach.  I think she could be trained not to go after it, but wonder how many ornaments would be absconded before that point.  Not to mention the possibility of it tipping over on her.  But Stephen is so looking forward to a tree that we have to have one.  And truth be told, I am, too.
