So, I'm thinking about this...

I turned 30 on June 17th. Into my fourth decade, hurrah!

I have been considering a small nostril piercing to celebrate. There's a place just up the street that does piercings. I've read up on it, and it sounds like the nostril is a fairly easy one to have done. I think I'd want a pretty small stud, rather than a ring. But I don't want it to look stupid, and I don't want to regret it in a couple of years. And I also don't really want certain family members (mostly Nana) to flip out if/when she sees it.

So, what do you think? Is this a passing pre-mid-life-crisis? Would I be a poser? Would teenagers laugh at me? Would Sophia yank it out of my nose? Should I try wearing bindi there for a while and see if I like the look of it, before taking the plunge? Help me decide, for I am the queen of indecision!

I love mine! I have a really tiny sapphire stud, and Annabel likes to prod it with her index finger but she can't really yank it out, just make sure your stud is a 'nose screw' not a plug ;)

Yeah, a "nostril screw" is definitely what you want.

Also, this probably goes without saying, but check out the piercing place before you go get something done there. Make sure it looks clean, has knowledgeable staff, and they sterilize everything and use (and change!) gloves often.

I'm going to get mine done at some point, but I'm waiting for after my cousin's wedding so I don't shock my poor mom. :)

Oh, and hi, btw. I'm Barbara, Jamie's mom, from m.k.* groups. :)

Sister says....

Do it do it do it! It would go well with the mendhi'd hands and such. Actually, I really do think it would look good on you. But you can always try bindi first, just to see.

Next, Mom and I will be getting tattoos!

ah oh

OH, dear! And I thought I was liberal, but... I find myself hoping that you do not do this. Maybe because you are getting too old for it? One seldom sees anyone over 29 with a nose piercing. And also because I personally don't like the look of them. Once done, can they close up, like ear piercings? How about a nice violin tattoo instead?
Sorry,
yo mama

Rebel sister!

I don't think it would look that great - but then, I don't think any nose piercings look that great - but Jan, you've got to do this. Think of the changes! Now that Roby's a librarian, a piercing could make YOU the rebel sister! Do it! Do it!

You may want to consider an eyebrow piercing instead. They don't sound appealing, but they're damn cute.

I did it... four weeks ago...

I went ahead and got the piercing done on July 3, with Leslie as my moral support. We were hanging around at David's parents' house, while they took Stephen to the fireworks, and I mentioned to Leslie that I was thinking of getting my nose done. She said she knew a good place, I thought, what the hell, so we went. It didn't hurt much or for long -- about 30 seconds of "ow, there's a needle in my skin" and then it was a tiny bit sore for 10 minutes or so. I've had *no* problems with it, and I really like the way it looks. Happy birthday to me :)
